The next major building program, a larger sanctuary, was launched July 27, 1986, steered by a local church committee headed by Dr. Richard Gingles. Serving with him were the late Dr. Joe Holloway, who headed a successful fund drive, and the Rev. Robert Huffman, pastor at the time. Bishop Robert C. Morgan led the service consecrating the new sanctuary on November 1, 1987. The church campus was enlarged again by the purchase of the Price property to provide the site for a new building. Designed by architect Fred Wagner, the new building combined both classical and contemporary ideas in church architecture. The cruciform design allows over 400 worshipers to be seated in the chancel for worship programs, music and drama. The building also has a large gathering place, a choir room, two multi-purpose rooms and an office suite. A new parsonage was purchased in |

Finally, the Christian Life Center was completed just three days before Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005. The new CLC building and the rest of the campus survived virtually intact and fortunately provided shelter to a family during the storm. There was some minor damage to Moore Hall and both parsonages. The new CLC provides an updated kitchen, banquet hall, nursery suite, and choir room. Being the largest building south of the tracks after the hurricane, it has also served well doubling as a community center. |
