Who is this guy?

Why, our Senior Pastor, of course!

Say ’Hello’ to our Senior Pastor, Jim Genesse.  He is not having an identity crisis.  Actually, God was just preparing him for ministry in Katrina country down here in south Mississippi.

A second career pastor, Jim entered the ministry after working for the Harrison County Civil Defense Office and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of Miami (go ‘Canes) and a Master of Science in Geography and Planning from the University of Southern Mississippi (go Eagles).  He completed his Master of Divinity degree at Asbury Theological Seminary (go God) in Wilmore, Kentucky.

“My call to ministry developed out of my volunteer work at my church.  My motivational gift is service and my greatest joy is helping someone connect with Jesus and deepen their relationship with Him.  My life verse is Romans 5:8 - God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jim was appointed as senior pastor of First UMC Long Beach in June 2002, having previously served churches in Collins, Booneville, and Jackson, Mississippi, as well as Lexington, Kentucky.  He was also a campus minister at the Northeast Mississippi Community College Wesley Foundation.

Jim was born and raised in Miami, Florida but has called Mississippi home since 1979.  His wife Margaret is a registered nurse/stay at home mom.  Their son Michael is a student in the Long Beach School District.  Jim plays at golf, reads history for fun, likes railroading, and performs an occasional trombone piece.  An ideal meal would be a shrimp po-boy, a Barq’s, and a piece of Margaret’s key lime pie.
