Hurricane Information

WACKY DAYS OF SUMMER - The kids will want to come to Sunday School this summer.  We will have games during our gathering time from 9:30—9:45am followed by our morning skit.  We are now meeting for our gathering time in the Youth Hall (inside of Heritage Hall) instead of in Moore Hall.  After the skit, we will go back to Moore Hall for our lessons and will still be picked up downstairs in Moore Hall.  Thank you for your patience.  Here’s the wacky wear for July:

July 27th           Wear your VBS t-shirt or an orange shirt and your leis for VBS Sunday!

We will be singing our VBS song this day.

JUST JULY - It is the perfect month to “just dress” in comfortable, casual clothing;  to “just expect” a warm, relaxed feeling in all our services; to “just plan” on special events like the Ice Cream Social and Vacation Bible School, to “just sit” in a new place or come to a different service; to “just meet” some new people; to “just invite” some of your friends to come with you.   Why?  Because it’s “Just July”!

O.A.K.S - Joe Collins, Chaplain, Harrison County Adult Detention Center, will talk about his ministry and the Center for the July 23rd luncheon.  This is a ministry which is supported by contributions from FUMCLB Missions program and the UMW.  So bring a meat, casserole, salad, vegetable or dessert and two or three friends and join us for lunch at 11:45.  We invite all those who are 55+ and that includes members of other churches.  Blood pressures will be taken between 10:45 and 11:30am.

WESLEY FOUNDATION at PERK - The Wesley Foundation at the Perkingston Campus of MGCCC is having a fish fry on Friday, July 25th.  They will be serving at lunch and dinner (4:30—7:30).  Tickets are $10 and proceeds will be used for programming expenses.  If you’d like to order a ticket or go with a group, contact Janis Slade for more information.

MEDICAID PLANNING SEMINAR - Wilson Elder Law Center will hold a free public seminar on “How to get Medicaid coverage for your nursing home care...without selling your home or leaving your family without a dime” on Tuesday, July 29th at 6:30pm in the Christian Life Center (CLC).  Attendees are entitled to a complimentary in-office consultation.

YOUTH BACK TO SCHOOL EXTREME MAKEOVER - Mark your calendars for “Back to School Extreme Makeover” .  It will kick off Sunday, August 3rd at noon and conclude Monday at 9pm.  All youth are strongly encouraged to attend.  More details to come.

WESLEY FOUNDATION at MSU - Hugh Griffith, campus minister at Mississippi State University, asked to let you know about their need for assistance with their program funding.  They, like all or our Wesley Foundations, receive no funds from the Conference for programming and with 150 students attending their weekly activities, their program expenses can be considerable.  They depend completely on donations and fundraisers.   One time donations or a pledge of $10 or more per month would be most appreciated.  Contact Janis Slade for more information.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK - The Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is getting back in full swing here on the coast bringing shelter, meals and support services to families without homes.  IHN offers compassionate care to homeless families and assists them in securing a stable home. The function of our church and volunteers will be to provide meals, company at dinner and for the evening, and provide two volunteers to sleep in the residence during the evening.  Currently, our congregation’s hosting weeks are July 27—Aug. 2 and Aug. 24—Aug. 30.  Please consider participating in this very important mission.  Contact Rhett Hamiter or Mark Treadaway if you have any questions.

BUILDING RENOVATIONS - Some have asked about making a financial contribution to the building project currently underway.  Simply place it in an offering envelope and memo it to “Building Renovations”.

PLEASE EXCUSE OUR MESS - You may have noticed some recent activity going on in Moore Hall and Heritage Hall, namely the building of a new class room in Moore Hall and the application of a tiled mosaic in Heritage hall.  These are the initial steps in a plan to better utilize these buildings for our ministries.  When completed, Heritage Hall will house all our Children and Youth Ministries and Moore Hall will be the building for all Adult Ministries.  Please bear with us and excuse the mess in the interim.  Contact Jerry Leone if you have any questions.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER GROUP - The Intercessory Prayer Group is seeking men or women willing to meet on Monday morning at 9:30 in the church parlor to pray for the needs of our church, its members, and anyone that we have been asked to pray for.  Please come and join us.

ORGANIST - Our church is in need of an organist.  If you or someone you know is interested in this position, please contact the church office.

AUDIO TAPES - Audio tapes of the services are available through the church office.   Tapes are also available for our homebound members upon request.

CHURCH LIBRARY - We have a church library located across from the church office and it is open everyday!  We have Christian novels, autobiographies, reference books and many new books.  Come and enjoy these resources!

VBS WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! - Thanks to all who had a hand in it!  We had close to 130 kids almost every night, and we raised $1700 for the Gongwers library in Africa.  Kids, wear your t-shirts next Sunday, July 27th, because we’re singing in both services.  Thanks again to everyone for the help!

CHANCEL CHOIR - Chancel choir will resume practice on Wednesday, July 30th at 7pm.
