God is shining through our youth!MOSAIC2010INSIDE OUT!

First United Methodist Church Long Beach is committed to the spiritual outreach with the youth of our church and community. Our church has established many programs and activities that lend a supporting hand and spiritual guidance to our youth.

We offer the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) for youth from grades 6 to 12 on Sunday afternoon at 4pm in the youth hall. The UMYF is an organization that allows the youth of our church and community to gather to discuss topics and issues that may weigh heavily on their minds, as well as, providing Christian social activities, such as “Destination X” and worship through music. The UMYF also makes its presence known in our community through mission projects, such as their annual Christmas baskets and caroling for shut-ins in Long Beach.  Contact Kevin Bishop for more information.

We have an active Puppet Ministry that provides an excellent outreach program to children.  The puppet team meets on Sunday afternoon at 3pm.  This ministry is comprised of middle and high school youth and is open to anyone who is interested in being a puppeteer, building props, sharing experiences, and worshipping God in this meaningful way.  Performances include Fellowship Suppers, Children’s Ministry activities, Children’s Sermon time, and special functions for other churches and groups.  Contact Millie Treadaway for more information.

The M.O.S.A.I.C. (Making Our Souls Alive in Christ) Mission Work Camp is sponsored by Long Beach First United Methodist Church.  It was started in 2006 in response to the great need on the Gulf Coast due to Hurricane Katrina.  We want to give teenagers the opportunity to serve this community and share their faith with others.  .

We also help support and sponsor our youth annually for work with Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project).  The Tennessee Outreach Project is a mission to the Cumberland Mountains where youth who are entering 9th grade or are 14 years old spend a week doing hands on projects that will fill their hearts with the spirit of the Lord.  Our youth come back with the joy that can only come from helping others.  The church pays half the cost for church members and regular MYF participants to attend.  There may be other scholarships available through the Hayes Fund that is overseen by the trustees.      Contact Lynn Bourdin for more information or if you have questions.

First United Methodist Church Long Beach also has a Youth Council that meets periodically to discuss youth issues and concerns within the church.
